What is an Accountant?
An accountant is someone whose job it is to keep, validate and analyze financial bookkeeping for individuals and businesses. To become a career accountant, an individual will need to obtain specialized training usually in the form of a university degree. To become a certified public accountant, abbreviated as CPA, an individual is generally required to obtain a masters degree.
An accountant will generally specialize, just like an attorney specializes. An accountant can specialize in tax accounting, where they focus on filing tax returns for individuals and/or small or large businesses and corporations. An accountant can specialize in bookkeeping validation, the process of ensuring the bookkeeping records are legitimate. An accountant who specializes in validating bookkeeping is called an auditor. And an accountant can also specialize as a forensic accounting examiner whose job entails the discovery of financial information in legal cases that may or may not involve a crime.
